Announcing the Technology Users Group
posted by: Jason McDonald in News on 04 8th, 2009 | | 2 Comments »

We are changing the format of the Charleston SC Java Users Group to focus on a broader array of topics. The group formerly known as the Java Users Group will now be known as the Technology Users Group.

There are a couple reasons for this:

  • There are a large variety of really good speakers that don’t fit with the current Java Users Group agenda and format. Expanding the base to technology in general will allow us to hear from some of these great speakers.
  • A focus on all technology, as opposed to just Java related technology, will attract and retain a larger audience.
  • This change will reflect the changes in the software industry. The industry, in general, has been moving away from singule language solutions and towards integrated approaches that leverage many technologies, all working in harmony.

We will try to maintain the same schedule as before, holding meetings on the last Wednesday of each month around 6pm. Our sponsor, Benefitfocus, will also remain the same and the majority of meetings will still be held at the Benefitfocus building. In addition, all meetings will continue to be free.

The URL, logos, and title of our web site will be changing soon. The http://www.CharlestonSCJUG.org URL will still work, however it will be redirected to the new domain, http://www.TechnologyUsersGroup.org.

In all, the following sites will all resolve to the Technology Users Group web site:

  • http://www.TechnologyUsersGroup.org (main domain)

This is an exciting change that will bring us a larger array of top notch speakers!
